Time To Learn a Kung Fu Broad Sword Combo

hey Santanu from kung fu Academy
here in this video I’m going to show you a Chinese broadsword combination. Now the
Chinese broadsword is sharp on one side and dull on the other. it’s generally
curve shaped to facilitate a lot of swinging, big hacking moves. Sometimes
there’s a tail at the end a tassel and that is to wrap your hand around and
grip in case things got messy. Now watch the video all the way to the end because
I walk through the whole routine while talking about some philosophy. So the
Chinese broadsword combination that I’m going to do comes from a routine called
the Tiger’s tail broadsword form. Let’s take a look at it. So start in cat stance
here, and I thrust, lift, then slice down, and chop overhead. Upward block and
thrust, lift, cut down and then come overhead, like that. So when I was a kid, I never really
gravitated towards conventional sports. I mean I was athletic but I didn’t like
you know regular competitive sports like soccer or basketball or anything. When I found martial arts through
the Karate Kid movie – original one – what I loved was the fact that it was building
on skills and I decided to try a class at the local, I guess it was the
local rec center had a karate program. And what I loved so much was the fact
that they had you doing what are called Kata, where basically
you’re working on things on your own, all by yourself. That is perfect for
introverts you know I don’t really have to rely on other
people, I could practice literally by myself, and I think that was the biggest
draw for me as a kid, that I could work on something on my own and improve on. As an
adult, I just hate the idea of exercise. it’s not for me.
I’m not going to the gym, I’m not. And just regular fitness programs don’t
really work – I just I don’t want to do them. So, working on my forms and
technique is a much better way to get my exercise and stay healthy.

  1. It's nice to hear a different perspective on why people started training in kung fu and, more broadly, martial arts. It doesn't always have the same entry point (self defense)!

  2. Thanks for watching my Kung-Fu Broad Sword Combo video! Want to see another Kung-Fu weapon demo/tutorial? Let me know!
