Shorin-Ryu Karate Tips & Techniques : Knee Strike in Shorin-Ryu Karate

How are you doing? My name is Sensei Qaeem.
On behalf of Expert Village, I’ll be demonstrating Shorin-Ryu karate. In this segment, I’m
going to be demonstrating the knee strike. The knee strike, you simply you want to be
in your forward stance. You’re going to strike with your back leg. Now, when you strike,
you always want to have a target in front of you or an imaginary target in front of
you that you want to be striking with. Now, what you want to do, you’re going to bring
your knee up. Your toe is going to be facing down, that one is towards the ground. You’re
going to bring your knee up and you’re going to lean backwards with it. That way you get
more power with your knee. Bring up, strike, strike. I’m going to be demonstrating that
technique on my partner, Mohammed. Mohammed is simply just going to go for a grab in my
throat. He grabs my throat, I grab him on his shoulders and I come in with knee. With
your knee you can knee right here to the pelvic muscle, or you can bring someone here down.
Mohammed could grab my chest again. I can bring his head down and come up with the knee.
The knee is a technique that can be very critical to your subject. So, Mohammed is coming in,
he’s grabbing, bring him down, knee strike. Once again, notice how I am here but I still
have my balance because I am bending my knee. Grab, knee strike…grab, knee strike. That
is the knee strike. On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Qaeem. Thank you for watching.

  1. he sure did. the area he talking about is known as many things: either the xiphoid process which is a small bony protrusion at the lower end of the sternum, which also happens to be an attachment site for several muscles like the abdominals and the diaphram. This guy is an idiot.

  2. Yea, your opponent is gong to let you grab his head, pull it down, and knee his face. I guess all those martial arts fights and street fights I've seen where both fighters are thrashing about wildly are just unrealistic, since you can reach over, grab his head, and knee is face.

  3. Also, you've clearly demonstrated you lack the ability to hold your balance on one foot. 00:35 is just one example.

First, I cannot imagine how you managed to get a black belt in anything other than the ancient art of Bull Shito if you cant even stand on one foot without wobbling.

Second, you're just going to get your ass thrown on the ground if you try kneeing someone without being able to balance.

  4. this video is better from the last one but everyone knows how to do that nothin hard tho.. but i forgot it's beginning

  5. you should really demonstrate in real time. Your balance is way off. there is no such thing as a pelvic muscle. If you are going to do instructional videos, know what you are doing and talking about. People will take you more seriously.

  6. If training begins with sliding your futon into the kitchen, you probably shouldn't consider yourself an "expert."
