OH, MY GOODNESS! HOLYFIELD BIT
BY A DIRTY MIKE TYSON! OVER A WEEK HAS PASSED
SINCE THAT DRAMATIC NIGHT. AND DURING THIS TIME,
THE WHIRLWIND OF PUBLICITY SURROUNDING THE REMATCH BETWEEN
EVANDER HOLYFIELD AND MIKE TYSON HAS TAKEN ON A LIFE OF ITS OWN. AND WITH ALL THE RUMORS
AND INNUENDOS, THEORIES AND SPECULATION, IT IS SAFE TO SAY THAT NO
SPORTING EVENT IN RECENT MEMORY HAS PROVOKED MORE OUTRAGE
AND HAS RAISED MORE QUESTIONS. NOW WE WILL TRY TO UPDATE YOU
ON ALL THE CURRENT ISSUES AND CONTROVERSIES
SURROUNDING THIS BOUT. I WOULDN’T UNDERSTAND WHY
HE WOULD DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT. I THINK MAYBE HE DID IT
FOR THE PRESSURE, UNDER THE PRESSURE. HE COULDN’T BEAT HIM.
HE WAS FEELING BAD. THERE’S A LOT OF QUESTIONS
TO BE ASKED. WHY? Albert:
DESPITE ALL OF THE ANGER, HUMOR, AND INDIGNATION
OVER TYSON’S MACABRE BEHAVIOR, THE QUESTION REMAINED —
WHY DID TYSON RESORT TO BITING? ACCORDING TO HIS CAMP,
WHAT INSTIGATED TYSON’S ANGER AND PROVOKED THE BITING WAS A SERIES
OF INTENTIONAL HEAD BUTTS. HOLYFIELD DENIES
THE HEAD BUTTS WERE INTENTIONAL AND CLAIMS IT WAS A LEFT HOOK,
NOT A BUTT, THAT OPENED THE GASH
OVER TYSON’S EYE. AS WE SHOWED YOU
IN THE ORIGINAL TELECAST, HERE’S WHERE THE HEAD BUTT
OCCURRED. TYSON SAYS IT WAS INTENTIONAL, BUT THE REFEREE RULED IT
ACCIDENTAL. TYSON COMPLAINED TO THE REFEREE
AS HOLYFIELD CONTINUED TO FIGHT, THROWING AND LANDING A LEFT HOOK HE TOLD US HE BELIEVED CAUSED
THE GASH OVER TYSON’S RIGHT EYE. ANOTHER ANGLE SHOWS TYSON’S
MOMENTUM FROM THE MISSED PUNCH PUTS HIM OFF BALANCE, CAUSING THE TWO FIGHTERS
TO ACCIDENTALLY BANG HEADS. NOW, WATCH THIS. YOU CAN SEE A SMALL TRICKLE
OF BLOOD ON TYSON’S CHEEK. THIS HAPPENED BEFORE
HOLYFIELD LANDED HIS LEFT HOOK. THE IMAGE OF TYSON
SAVAGELY BITING HOLYFIELD’S EAR HAS CIRCULATED AROUND THE WORLD,
RAISING A MYRIAD OF QUESTIONS. WAS THE BITING PREMEDITATED? DID HE DO IT WITH
OR WITHOUT HIS MOUTHPIECE? HOW SERIOUS WAS THE DAMAGE? HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED. THE THIRD AND WHAT TURNED OUT TO
BE THE FINAL ROUND OF THE FIGHT BEGINS WITH TYSON
LEAVING HIS CORNER EARLY WITHOUT HIS MOUTHPIECE. NOW, THIS RAISED SPECULATION THAT THE BITING
COULD HAVE BEEN PREMEDITATED. HERE IT IS AGAIN. TYSON’S TRAINER,
RICHIE GIACHETTI, IN THE UPPER RIGHT-HAND CORNER
OF YOUR SCREEN, IS YELLING AT HIS FIGHTER
AND THE REFEREE, MILLS LANE, ABOUT THE MISSING MOUTHPIECE. NOW, LANE’S BACK
IS TO TYSON’S CORNER, SO HE CAN’T SEE GIACHETTI. MEANWHILE, HOLYFIELD SPOTS IT. HE SEES GIACHETTI
AND GETS LANE’S ATTENTION. LANE THEN SENDS TYSON BACK
TO HIS CORNER TO RETRIEVE HIS MOUTHPIECE. ALTHOUGH THIS DOESN’T SHED LIGHT
ON TYSON’S THINKING, IT CLEARLY ABSOLVES GIACHETTI
OF ANY PREMEDITATED ACTION. 2:25 INTO THE ROUND, TYSON SHOCKS THE WORLD
BY BITING HOLYFIELD’S RIGHT EAR. LANE, SURPRISED BY HOLYFIELD’S
STRANGE ANTICS, CALLS TIME-OUT
TO FIND OUT WHAT’S GOING ON. NOW, AS HOLYFIELD RETREATS
TO HIS CORNER, TYSON RUSHES ACROSS THE RING
AND PUSHES HIM FROM BEHIND. AS WE CONTINUE THE SAGA
OF TYSON’S MOUTHPIECE, SOME SPECULATE
THAT HE SPIT OUT THE MOUTHPIECE BEFORE HE BIT HOLYFIELD. AS YOU TAKE ANOTHER LOOK
OF THE FIRST BITE, YOU CAN SEE TYSON TAKING A CHUNK
OUT OF HOLYFIELD’S EAR. AND WATCH AS HE SPITS IT OUT. IT’LL BE CIRCLED RIGHT HERE. NOW, LATER,
YOU’LL SEE THE MOUTHPIECE COME OUT OF TYSON’S MOUTH. AND YOU’LL SEE IT DROP
TO THE CANVAS. AND THERE IT IS,
CIRCLED RIGHT THERE, JUST BELOW HOLYFIELD’S
LEFT ELBOW. SO THERE’S NO QUESTION
THAT TYSON HAD THE MOUTHPIECE IN WHEN HE BIT EVANDER HOLYFIELD. NOW, REFEREE LANE LOOKS DOWN
AT THE CANVAS FOR THE MOUTHPIECE THEN UP AT HOLYFIELD AND THEN CALLS TIME-OUT
TO ASSESS THE SITUATION. AS WE TAKE A LOOK
FROM THE OVERHEAD CAMERA, LANE, TRYING TO BREAK UP
THE CLINCH, SEES THE MOUTHPIECE
ON THE CANVAS. THERE IT IS IN THE CIRCLE. LANE RETRIEVES THE MOUTHPIECE, WHICH IS FOLLOWED BY HOLYFIELD’S
REACTION TO THE BITE AND THEN THE SHOVE
INTO THE ROPES BY TYSON. AND AGAIN, AS YOU CAN SEE,
LANE CALLS TIME-OUT, PICKS UP TYSON’S
FALLEN MOUTHPIECE, EVENTUALLY HANDS IT TO THE OFFICIAL IN HOLYFIELD’S
CORNER — RIGHT THERE — WHO IN TURN GIVES IT TO
HOLYFIELD’S TRAINER, DON TURNER. THIS IS THE SAME MOUTHPIECE FERDIE PACHECO SAW
IN HOLYFIELD’S DRESSING ROOM AFTER THE FIGHT. THEN, JUST BEFORE THE ACTION
IN ROUND 3 RESUMED, GIACHETTI GAVE TYSON
A NEW MOUTHPIECE. TYSON CONTINUALLY FIDGETED
WITH THIS NEW MOUTHPIECE. AND PERHAPS IT WAS THIS ACTION
THAT FUELED SPECULATION THAT HE REMOVED
THIS PARTICULAR MOUTHPIECE. NOW, LOOK.
NOW, LOOK. BOTH OF YOU.
ALL RIGHT? Albert:
BUT AS YOU CAN SEE, HE IS CLEARLY WEARING
THE MOUTHPIECE AS THE BOUT CONTINUES. THEN, SOME TWO MINUTES
AFTER THE INITIAL BITE… …HE BIT THE OTHER EAR. THIS SECOND BITE
LED TO HIS DISQUALIFICATION. [ CROWD CHEERING ] AS THE ACTION, CONFUSION, AND CONTROVERSY UNFOLDED
INSIDE THE RING, A MAJOR CHARACTER IN THIS DRAMA
WAS REFEREE MILLS LANE. OVER THE YEARS, LANE HAS EARNED
A WELL-DESERVED REPUTATION AS AN EXCELLENT REFEREE. BUT IN THIS FIGHT, QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS DECISIONS
HAVE BEEN RAISED. HERE IS WHAT REALLY HAPPENED. Lane:
WORK OUT. TIME. TIME!
TIME. HEY!
[ CROWD CHEERING ] THAT’S GONNA COST YOU
A POINT. HE’S BUTTING ME. THAT’S GONNA COST YOU
A POINT. Man:
HE BIT HIS EAR! [ SPEAKING INDISTINCTLY ] HE BIT HIS EAR!
HE BIT HIS EAR! HE BIT HIS EAR!
LOOK AT THAT. [ CROWD BOOING ] HE’S DISQUALIFIED.
HE BIT HIS EAR. HE’S OUT.
HE’S DISQUALIFIED. HE BIT HIS EAR.
I CAN SEE THE BITE MARKS. OKAY.
YOU WANT TO DISQUALIFY HIM? WELL, LET ME ASK
THE DOC. HE BIT HIS EAR.
CAN HE GO ON? YES. OKAY. GONNA BE A 2-POINT DEDUCTION.
THE FIGHT WILL GO ON. COME HERE.
HEY. YEAH.
HE BIT HIM IN THE EAR. THAT WAS A PUNCH.
BULLSHIT! IT’S GONNA COST HIM
2 POINTS. 2 POINTS. 2 POINTS OFF HIM. HE BIT HIS EAR.
2 POINTS OFF. 2. 2 POINTS. 2 POINTS. [ CROWD CHEERING ] HE BIT HIM
IN THE OTHER EAR. I KNOW.
I KNOW, I KNOW. BIT HIM
IN THE OTHER EAR! HE BIT HIM
IN THE OTHER EAR. Lane:
THAT’S IT. [ CROWD SHOUTING ] YOU’RE DONE. YOU’RE DONE! YOU’RE DONE!
YOU’VE BEEN — YOU’RE DONE! HE’S DONE.
I DISQUALIFY HIM. YOU’RE DISQUALIFIED. WE WON?
WE WON? I DIDN’T BITE HIM. HE’S GONE. DISQUALIFIED. HE BIT HIM IN THE —
HE’S DISQUALIFIED. HE BIT HIM TWICE. WHO WON?
HOW’D HE BIT HIM TWICE? HE BIT HIM IN BOTH EARS.
HE’S DISQUALIFIED. HE DID NOT BITE HIM, MILLS.
THAT’S IT. THAT’S IT.
HE’S GONE. Albert: UPON FURTHER REVIEW
OF THE FIGHT, IT APPEARED THAT LANE WAS GOING
TO DEDUCT A POINT FROM TYSON FOR SHOVING HOLYFIELD AFTER TIME HAD BEEN CALLED
TO REPLACE THE MOUTHPIECE. ONLY AFTER HOLYFIELD’S CORNER
NOTIFIED THE REFEREE THAT THE CHAMPION HAD BEEN BIT DID HE DEDUCT A POINT
FOR THAT BITING FOUL. FOR A MOMENT, AFTER VIEWING
THE DAMAGE TO HOLYFIELD’S EAR, LANE APPEARED
TO WANT TO DISQUALIFY TYSON AND SAID SO TO COMMISSION
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MARC RATNER. LANE THEN SEEMED TO CHANGE HIS
MIND ABOUT THE DISQUALIFICATION AFTER LEARNING FROM RINGSIDE
PHYSICIAN FLIP HOMANSKY THAT HOLYFIELD COULD CONTINUE. INSTEAD OF STOPPING THE BOUT, LANE DEDUCTED 1 POINT
FOR THE BITE AND 1 FOR THE PUSH. INCREDIBLY,
TYSON’S CORNER CLAIMED THE WOUND ON HOLYFIELD’S EAR
WAS CAUSED BY A PUNCH. LANE QUICKLY REFUTED
THIS FICTION. THE REFEREE DID NOT,
AS PREVIOUSLY BELIEVED, WARN TYSON
HE WOULD BE DISQUALIFIED IF HE COMMITTED THE INFRACTION
AGAIN. IT ALSO APPEARED
THAT HOLYFIELD’S CORNER HAD TO TELL LANE
ABOUT THE SECOND BITE. IN THE DAYS FOLLOWING THE FIGHT, THERE HAS BEEN A CONTINUAL
STREAM OF FALLOUT AND SURPRISES, INCLUDING PRESS CONFERENCES,
COMMISSION HEARINGS, AND INTERVIEWS. EVANDER, I AM SORRY. YOU’RE A CHAMPION.
I RESPECT THAT. AND I’M ONLY SADDENED THAT
THE FIGHT DIDN’T GO ON FURTHER SO THAT THE BOXING FANS
OF THE WORLD MIGHT HAVE SEEN FOR THEMSELVES
WHO WOULD COME OUT ON TOP. …PURSUANT TO NEVADA
REVISED STATUTE 467156, THAT MIKE TYSON BE SUSPENDED
PENDING THE DISPOSITION OF THE COMPLAINT FOR
DISCIPLINARY ACTION AGAINST HIM. AS OF THIS TAPING, THE REPERCUSSIONS AND
RAMIFICATIONS FROM THIS REMATCH ARE FAR FROM OVER. SHORTLY, THE NEVADA STATE
ATHLETIC COMMISSION IS SCHEDULED TO IMPOSE
PUNISHMENT UPON TYSON. MANY BELIEVE IT WILL EXACT
THE MAXIMUM FINE — 10% OF TYSON’S
NEARLY $30 MILLION PURSE. AND THEY PREDICT THE COMMISSION
WILL SUSPEND OR REVOKE TYSON’S BOXING LICENSE
FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR. BUT EVEN THEN,
THE STORY WILL BE FAR FROM OVER. FOR HOW WILL THE SHOCKING
OCCURRENCES OF JUNE 28th AFFECT THE TWO COMBATANTS
AND THE SPORT ITSELF? WILL WE EVER KNOW WHAT MOTIVATED MIKE TYSON
THAT NIGHT IN LAS VEGAS? WAS IT FRUSTRATION
OR WAS IT UNCONTROLLED RAGE? ONE THING IS CERTAIN — HE PERMANENTLY DAMAGED
HIS REPUTATION AND CAREER. AND WHAT OF EVANDER HOLYFIELD? BLOODIED BUT UNBOWED, THE CHAMPION HAS PUT THIS
UNFORTUNATE EPISODE BEHIND HIM. NOW HE BEGINS HIS QUEST TO ONCE AGAIN UNIFY
THE HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE.

  1. Tyson lunges forward and heads clash…. how people call this an intentional headbutt is beyond me – saw this fight live ….tyson was going to lose, he was being outboxed and outclassed by a man who wasnt intimidated by him and wasnt going to fight backwards

  2. excellent call on the referee . anyone that says otherwise is a dumb fuck . gave tyson another chance nd blew it .

  3. man I remember this fight like yesterday gotta love mills lane! ! Tyson that was a punch mills lane answers bullshit lol classic mills lane what a great ref! !! hell he actually wanted to disqualify Tyson after first bite which would have been justified but he loved boxing so much he let the doc talk him out of it. I loved Mike Tyson but gotta admit that was some bullshit he pulled head had his number and he knew it! ! oh for you youngsters that's was also a nickname for holyfield

  4. The sad part is Tyson still had credibility as Holyfield was known to use his head. It was the Lewis fight that killed his credibility, had he stayed focused he could've dominated the division again. Too much women and liquor, you can't be in tip top shape and new party animal, you need focus

  5. Lol u bite somebody when they really have pissed u the fuck off. I bit one of my cousin's in his upper back and he was screaming in pain. I left marks there and it looked like he got sowed. He had blood and got lucky I let go. If I kept it a few seconds more he'd have to go to the hospital

  6. All the things that made tyson special werent there. No body shots or combination uppercuts. Cus or rooney wouldve corrected that.

  7. im glad tyson did it, his eye was ripped open it was horrific and holyfield said its from a left hook replays show its clearly a butt. called a butt by the ref the commentators but holyfield somehow knew his missed left hook was the cause, truth is the fight wouldve been stopped eventually from the cut possilbly a no contest or technical decision since it was NOT from a punch and the cut was gushing blood.

  8. I'm sorry but in this one tyson was dirty dirty i agree with mills 2 points good and out and he did it again ran up in behind him tyson was dirty at times and guess what I'm glad he apologize but that'

  9. but that's not enough tyson i saw it maybe you did to tyson felt that's he bit holderfield a distraction would stop him from getting his as whipped and he knew it of course and I'm a big fan of tyson and i like holderfield felt for HIM

  10. Tyson is an American pitbul you can't headbut him and carry on as normal saying it was an accident .after he bit him he was saying to him if you want to play dirty I'll show you what dirty is look at that, that's your ear on the floor mate lets go again!!!

  11. Mils Lane doesn't deserve any flack for this. He did the best possible job here. They were acting as if no other referee in history had ever missed seeing illegal tactics in a boxing match.

  12. Anyone who thinks holyfield intentionally headbutted tyson is a moron clear as day in this video it was accidental tyson was charging in holyfield ducked his head down and they clashed heads tyson bit evander to get disqualified on purpose because he's a coward holyfield was willing to continue with half his ear gone but tyson bit him again who's the real champion.

  13. Tyson is a pussy and a bully….doesn't like it when holyfield shuts the bully up…..plus many other fighters have shut him up……Tyson could only beat bums and old fighters…..he ducked any one half decent in his era. For me he only just makes the top 100 best heavyweight boxers ever….and I mean only just.

  14. I was 30 years old lying in a nursing home from a bike accident when this fight happened. No internet or cell phones, so I turned on my Walkman radio the next morning, and the guy on the radio said, "Tyson bit off Holyfield`s ear". I was picturing the whole ear on the canvas, because that's the way the guy on the radio made it sound.

  15. And Tyson looked shocked at the dq, I suppose he just had enough of the constant head butts. Pity as would have been a good fight and was 50 50 as to who would win but the butts were let go by both lane and Mitch.

  16. Everybody holly fights all have either been cut by headbuts or if they were taller than him he couldn't quite reach them unless they were inside fighting & homes cut holly wae an elbow he always brings up MMM

  17. I was not aware there was video of him spitting the piece of ear out. Relieved he didn’t swallow it at least. Holyfield can say all day the headbutts were accidental but his record before and after would support intentional. An intentional bite and intentional headbutt are very different offenses but 10 out of 10 boxers would choose to loose a piece of his ear rather than a cut near the eye. Holyfield’s injury was disgusting sportsmanship, but using your head as a weapon constantly damaging your opponents eyes that could end their career is bad as well. I’m guessing this is why Lane gave him another chance after the initial disqualification. Plus no matter the outcome if Mike Tyson bit your ear off in a fight that you finished that’s a story even your great great great grandkids can tell and score pussy. I bet Holyfield gets tons of puss telling that story to girls, lol.

  18. The bottom line is that Holyfield was a better fighter PERIOD!! And Evander would have beat Tyson in 91 and any other time and place that they would have fought! Tyson was a great talent But Holyfield was a great Champion.. There's a HUGE difference.

  19. This is to all you Tyson fans can any of you name me 5 world class fighters Tyson have won I'll be waiting for your reply ?

  20. this would have been another epic battle if not for that coward Tyson. Holyfield is the real deal, And mills is still the baddest ref ever!!

  21. he did it because he knew he was gonna lose again and to save humiliation again he chose the option that was less painfull to his ego and at least he could say to himself and to the world I ll beat him in a street fight any day.

  22. I got a question how in the he'll did they find holyfield ear in the ring after all those men in there after the fight off of someone's shoes they had to find it and put it on ice right just saying

  23. Look at these delusional Mike Tyson dicksucks. Discrediting the man who put their mary sue down, Headbutts are nothing to an ear bite and guess what, the head butt DOES look like an accident in fact it looks like it didn't do any significant damage at all. Tyson got exposed and he showed his true character after getting outboxed and outplayed. You played yourself mike. Still would have lost had the fight gone on.

  24. Why wasnt he disqualified after he bite him once ? Why was he allowed to fight ? No body wanted to get Holyfield medical attention ??

  25. The headbutting was clearly intentional Holyfield has been a headbutter for years Tyson did the right thing even tho it cost him the fight

  26. I was watching this live on PPV and it was very disappointing. The fans were robbed of a clear winner. I watched my VHS recording of this repeatedly that night.
