He’s telling a [bleep] story. – These are the girls
my mom told me to stay away from. ♪ (industrial intro) ♪ – (FBE) So today, we’re
going to be showing you one song from 10 different rappers
who have been showing up on a lot of rappers
to watch in 2019 lists across the internet.
– Yeah, yeah. I know XXL every year puts out
their top 10 freshman. – I’m a huge rap fan. I love everything that
comes within rap and hip hop. – (FBE) We know it’s hard
to form a full opinion without knowing much about them
or hearing more songs, but we wanted to see what you think
from what you hear today. – Okay, I’m really good
at judging a book by its cover, so let’s see. – (FBE) We also hope that the viewers
of this episode leave more suggestions down in the comments
on new rappers to look up for 2019 that weren’t listed here
so we can all find some great new music
thanks to the FBE community when this episode comes out.
– Heck yeah. No, I’m really excited. It’s so hard to find new music without sifting through
a ton of just crap. – I’m much more confidant
in the viewers, I think, to kind of find much more
meaningful music. – (FBE) This is our first artist. It’s Blueface and the song
is “Bleed It.” – Blueface, baby! Hey! – I’ve been hearing his name a lot,
but I haven’t heard any of his music. – Blueface! I know him.
I know him. He’s popping off. His rap is known for being off beat,
which is very interesting. – ♪ (rapping) ♪
– Oh, my gosh! I’ve seen this before. – Oh, I’ve definitely heard this song. – ♪ Bleed it ♪ ♪ Slidin’, if I don’t drop somethin’,
I can’t leave it ♪ ♪ Wock’ got me poured,
but this TEC got him leanin’ ♪ – Okay, old-school LeBron jersey,
I can see that. – I know his whole thing
is he has face tattoos, and he’s kind of hard,
but I get slightly nerdy vibes. – ♪ …[bleep] on my lap,
I’m in traffic ♪ ♪ My pistol bloated,
ready to unload it ♪ ♪ Pop up least expected… ♪ – Yeah, it’s like he’s talking over
the beat, basically. – ♪ I started to notice… ♪ – This sounds very
west coast Californian. – ♪ …I can afford not to focus ♪ – See, he can rap his ass off.
That’s what I like about him. – There’s kind of a resurgence now
of gangsta rap. It was really big in the ’90s,
but now it’s starting to see it come back with artists
like YG, Blueface. This could probably be
someone to keep an eye out for. – (FBE) So that was Blueface,
who Drake recently co-signed and wants to collaborate with.
– Hell yeah! Drake’s trying to up his street cred. – I like the way he raps a lot. He kind of reminds me
a little bit of Tyler, the Creator, so he has good elements to them. I think I just want
to see more with him, and then whatever collaboration
he does with Drake would be really cool, too. – “Megan Thee Stallion.”
I’ve never heard of her. – ♪ Neva let a broke [bleep] sex me ♪ ♪ Neva let no hoe test me ♪ ♪ Neva been scared of the money ♪ – Oh, me neither. Uh. – This kinda makes me feel like
she’s trying too hard. – This is so far away from
the kind of music I listen to. – ♪ Shut the [bleep] up
when I’m talkin’, lil bitch ♪ ♪ Put yo head down
when you talk to a pimp ♪ – These are the girls my mom
told me to stay away from. – ♪ Excuse me, I got
some big racks in my purse ♪ ♪ And right now they just making me

almost, you know? She’s interesting. – ♪ I can tell

but she was going hard. She was going hard.
She wasn’t playing. – Musically, this isn’t
necessarily what I listen to, but lyrically, I think
she’s really good. She’s definitely talented. – (FBE) So that was
rapper Megan Thee Stallion, who is still growing
in the rap community, while still attending college. – Oh, that’s sick! That’s cool. Okay, she could have
some college bars in there. – (FBE) And what do
you think about the fact that she’s sticking with her education
despite success starting to come for her? – I think that’s [bleep] awesome. If the rap thing doesn’t work out,
she’ll have an education to fall back on. – She’s doing them both.
That’s great. I don’t know how she has time
for any of that. – (FBE) All right,
so next up, we have… – “YBN Cordae, Kung Fu.” – ♪ Let me tell you how
I come through with the 1-2 ♪ ♪ Kickin’ [bleep] like Kung Fu ♪ – Okay. – ♪ Treat a bad bitch

what you wan’ do? ♪ – I like his flow. – He sounds like
he’s got a better rhythm and flow than the past two. – ♪ Momma complain ’bout my Balmains ♪ ♪ But it’s all sane ♪ ♪ Couple racks in my skinny jeans ♪ ♪ Hit it up, one time ♪ ♪ [Bleep] gonna

That’s kinda… ick. – ♪ Twenty’s them,
twenty’s them, twinny twin twin ♪ – I really like the way
he’s flowing with this whole thing. – ♪ Bussin juugs… ♪ – I would put this in my playlist.
[Bleep], why not? – ♪ No snakes around me,
only snake on my collar ♪ – Yeah, it wasn’t bad. He actually has a pretty good voice. – That was dope. He switched his flow up three times. I [bleep] with that dude.
That was sick. That was my favorite one yet. – (FBE) That was rapper YBN Cordae,
whose debut performance was at the Rolling Loud music festival
in May 2018 and has also gone viral for his freestyles over various beats,
including Kendrick Lamar’s “Duckworth.” – I like it. I like that song
and I like his style. – A lot of people
really blow up after Rolling Loud because it showcases
a lot of newer or quote unquote SoundCloud rappers that are on the up. – Yeah, another female rapper! I’m gonna get really excited
any time one comes up. “Bri Steves, Jealousy.” Okay. – ♪ I hear that you get
them calls on your phone ♪ ♪ Say to leave me alone ♪ – Music videos in front of stores
are the [inaudible] this year. – ♪ Every ain’t [bleep] post ♪ ♪ And they think that it’s you ♪ ♪ They don’t know,
they don’t know… ♪ – This is different. – Does she sing, too?
Hell yeah, girl! – This is really nice.
She has a great voice. – The fact that she
makes this both rapping and this [bleep]
beautiful vocal range… wow! – Ooh, that’s smooth. – I love– yes. Yes! – ♪ …’cause it’s jealousy ♪ – This is all she needs to rely on.
No autotune, nothing, you know? It’s just raw talent. – ♪ I heard ’em say
that I’m [bleep] around ♪ – I’m in love. (laughing) – ♪ Say I’m heart broke
and bitter… ♪ – It’s so crazy because her rap voice
and her singing voice don’t sound same. – It’s pretty catchy.
It makes you bop your head. – With one song alone, I’m in. This is somebody
who has a great vocal range and good rapping abilities,
so its her own sort of style that she’s cultivated and that’s
something that I respect. – She sounded like she had
a more old-school vibe. There was a mixture of not just rap
but also more vocals that had an RnB vibe to it. – (FBE) Bri Steves, in just one year,
went from finding her way backstage to network with musicians
to performing on stage with Kendrick Lamar during his set
at the Made in America festival. – Hell yeah, girl!
She’s a networker, too. – I like it. I think I’m gonna be
giving her an extra listen. Any time you can add, you know,
just the smoothness of the RnB to bars is really fun to listen to. – “Pardison Fontaine,
Backin’ It up, featuring…” Oh, he got Cardi B on the track? Okay. – ♪ Let’s get it straight, girl ♪ ♪ You don’t need a [bleep]… ♪ – I’ve heard this song and it slaps! – ♪ …Benjamin Button ♪ ♪ Claimin’ he don’t got a girl,
you know [bleep] be frontin’ ♪ ♪ You don’t need
no bitch comin’ up… ♪ – This music video’s sick. – ♪ You spend your time drinkin’ wine
in your livin’ room ♪ ♪ All that good [bleep], can’t find
the one to give it to ♪ – He’s really smooth. His actual voice itself
and the rapping is really good. – I mean, yeah, he’s all right. I mean, nothing special to me. – Something about it
almost seems very generic. – ♪ [Bleep] a condom,
I’ma bring Saran Wrap ♪ – Ew! Use condoms!
Don’t use Saran Wrap. – ♪ Back, back-backin’ it up ♪ ♪ I’m the king of… ♪ – I like how it’s shot.
It’s really cool. – ♪ I know how to go
and get a bag, don’t I? ♪ – Let Cardi B co-sign. She was in the same
position two years ago. – ♪ …get a bag… ♪ – I don’t find collabing with Cardi B
to be anything special. I know people will be like,
“Oh, but it’s Cardi!” No, I don’t give a [bleep]. – It’s a good song,
but it’s not gonna be my jam. The fact that he wrote so many songs
and produced them and everything, it just shows that he has a talent. – He kind of reminds me
of 2 Chainz a little bit, that rugged punching
kind of speaking voice. His punch lines
really hit you in the chest. – (FBE) Aside from
collaborating with Cardi B on this track, “Backin’ It Up,”
Pardison Fontaine also co-wrote Cardi’s album “Invasion of Privacy.”
– No way! He co-wrote all those songs?
That album was so good! – (FBE) What are your thoughts
on how some producers and writers of other artists’ work also
pursue careers as artists themselves? – I mean, that’s
only fair in my opinion. And I can understand people
wanting to be able to show their face and stand behind their work. – Obviously, if he’s making music
that other artists really enjoy, he can probably make
a really good career for himself. – “Reason, Colored Dreams.” I feel like he’s going
to be a conscious wrapper. – I follow Top Dawg on Instagram
and all of their other artists, and they were
saying go follow Reason. – ♪ I guess I just
gotta chill for 20 years ♪ ♪ ‘Til the judge say that
it’s okay to come out ♪ ♪ I need an escape
and a way to run out ♪ – I can tell you
already I’m gonna like it. I love poetic rap. – He’s a great storyteller, man. His music is very heartfelt. – ♪ I’ve accepted that and now… ♪ – Oh! Damn. – ♪ Long nights
I’ve been tryna sleep ♪ – This is the [bleep] I like. – ♪ …so let me write you
this apology, this for your girl: ♪ ♪ Look, I’m sorry, mama ♪ ♪ I put a bullet in ’em ♪
– Hmmm. – I like storytelling. People relate to that
because some people can’t speak out. – You feel the emotion in his voice
when he’s rapping to you. – He’s not only rapping.
He’s telling a [bleep] story! – ♪ …in the courtroom,
I can tell you loved him ♪ ♪ I thought I was being gangster
when I took his life ♪ ♪ Now I can barely sleep
through a night ♪ ♪ I get it now ♪ ♪ [Bleep] those colored dreams ♪ – It’s like you can’t help
but have your heartstrings pulled and he’s sort of poetic personal rap. – That’s what he’s about, man. Great storytelling, showing–
making you feel as if you’re there in his shoes. – (FBE) So Reason
gained extra exposure when he appeared
on the Black Panther soundtrack with his track “Seasons.”
– That was a great soundtrack. The Black Panther soundtrack
is a great [bleep] soundtrack. – The main thing about an artist
is to get a listener to feel something, and he got me to feel how he felt. – “City Girls.”
They look interesting. – It’s a duo! I love this. And this is their song, “Season.” – ♪ It’s that season ♪ ♪ Where [bleep] cut a check… ♪ – To me, their sound reminds me
a little bit of Cupcake. – ♪ It’s that season ♪ – Yeah, I don’t know. It doesn’t attract me, but it might
attract somebody else. – ♪ Time to blow a bag,
time to blow a bag ♪ – Beverly Hills!
Hey, what up? – ♪ Want a brand new whip, all black ♪ ♪ Gotta be new body ♪ ♪ Wanna get my teeth done
and get a new body ♪ – This [bleep] is corny. – It’s kind of goofy. I don’t know if that
was their intention. – ♪ I got my hand out, even
when I don’t need no handout ♪ ♪ Gimme that ♪ ♪ ‘Cause I’m a bad bitch,
you gotta cash out ♪ – Not the best video I’ve seen today. – It’s like too posed.
It’s not flowing. I don’t even think

I don’t like it. I don’t enjoy it. It’s like I can see
the whole producers around, just telling them what to do,
how to move, how to sing. I’m just not buying it. – (FBE) So their career took off
after their vocals were featured on Drake’s number one hit song,
“In My Feelings.” – Oh! I’ve been wondering
for the longest time who that was. – (FBE) Do you sometimes
look up artists who are featured on other artist’s songs,
or do you not usually dig that deep? – Sometimes. If it’s really good,
I’ll normally do it, but if it’s just kind of something
where I prefer the rapper rather than the featured artist on it,
I won’t really pay complete attention to it. – I found J.I.D. through that–
I really liked his feature on one of J. Cole’s mix tape songs, and from there I was like
I need to find out who this dude is. – “ALLBLACK, Weigh Ins.” Okay, let’s go, face tattoos. – ♪ Rockstars, pass out
then do it again ♪ ♪ With the club, skip the dub,
I got a crazy plan ♪ ♪ Y’all thank God ’cause he the reason

about his bulldog because if he’s referring to a woman,
then we’re going to have issues. – (FBE) So that was rapper ALLBLACK,
who incorporates his love of football into his rap career
and often uses the sport as a metaphor for his struggles.
– Oh, okay. That’s interesting. – That’s one of those songs
I gotta listen to a couple of times back
so I can catch everything, but I’d definitely listen
to some of his music because if bumps. – “Lil TJay, Brothers.” I’ve seen their name. – ♪ Bodies drop all the time,
I don’t feel nothing ♪ ♪ Swear to God, y’all
gon’ make me go kill something ♪ – I’ve never understood
the excessive use of autotune. – I like the singy rap stuff. – To me, he sounds
a little bit like [inaudible]. – ♪ They be plotting on,
catching me snoozing ♪ – Oh, that edit though.
I saw that. Go through a door. – ♪ Ain’t no lie,
I be seeing illusions ♪ ♪ I can’t figure who real… ♪ – Okay, I like his voice a lot. – ♪ I remember it
could’ve been lights out ♪ ♪ Bitches see me and scream lil TJay ♪ ♪ Had to [bleep] up

I [bleep] love TJay. – That was really good. And his tone and voice is very on par
with what’s big right now. – It intrigued me. It definitely intrigued me.

have brought in millions of views across his SoundCloud account
and he’s only 17. – I knew it! He is little. – Only 17? Damn! Okay, so that just goes to show
if at 17, he’s over here, making songs that older people
probably would be like how do you do that? It just goes to show
just how much passion this dude has for the music
that he’s making, you know, and how into it he is,

since he was a young boy? – See, those have nice lyrics
from what I’ve heard. Even if he doesn’t
have anything I like now, I’m gonna watch out for him
because he sounds like he has potential. – (FBE) So Key Glock
first recorded himself freestyling to Future’s “Ain’t No Way Around It”
when he was only 12 years old. – They’re getting younger! – I thought it was all right. I am definitely interested
in going back and hearing some
of his freestyles though, because those always amaze me. – (FBE) Out of all the people
that we showed you here today, who do you think
will break out this year? – Blueface, baby! I just really like his lyrics. I like that hungry, grimy kind of rap. – Definitely Bri Steves. Because she seems so unique.
She knows what she likes. She seems very mature in her music. – Reason. His flow is great. The vibe of what
he was giving out, I mean, the writing was fantastic. – I think Pardison Fontaine
is the closest. He already has produced
a really good album with Cardi B. He has a hit song
