Enjoy the music~ Hello everyone, this is Uga LONG TIME NO SEE. Today’s topic is footwork! FOOTWORK! I will discuss how to master GOD LEVEL FOOTWORK today! Apparently, all good Kendo players have great footwork. I think this topic will fully cover with the next three videos. I will discuss in-depth and up to tiny detail about this because to master GOD’S FOOTWORK.
It not just a typical footwork I will try my best to break it down and easy to understand for you guys. I hate people point it out my footwork every time. For example, every time your teacher points out to bring back your right feet faster. or tells to keep your feet in a position where you can strike right away. or do your right foot Fumikomi stronger etc… They will tell you a lot of things But, footwork is a complicated topic and in fact, hard to understand. Even though you got pointed out every time. And this is when exactly people start feeling sick of practicing You think you are doing correct, but all other teachers would tell you the same thing. Well, anyone would obviously feel sick of this, right? Cuz you don’t know how on earth to fix it. Plus, the scary thing about bad footwork is It’s hard to fix or improve. For instance, if you start Kendo in elementary school and keep having that bad footwork habit until the graduation These are a very common story. Then you will repeat the same thing in junior high school. It all because of your footwork. 1. Force to Pull or Force to Push? Now, so what exactly you should do? To get amazing god-level footwork. Not just usual footwork, okay? Alright, here we start. Imagine this is a top view of you holding Shinai(bamboo sword) Then, your right hand and right foot are placed forward. Also, your left hand and left foot stay in the backside. So, you usually are holding diagonally. At this position. If you were to do god footwork. Then, for example like bring back your left leg faster, Or use your right foot like rubbing the floor…All those details will discuss LATER First, is to understand the big picture of this topic Which is separate your body into half. And think whether you should use the right half of your body? Or you should use left half of your body? This is the first step. This is what many people think, because of your right hand and foot. are placing forward, People tend to use only the right side of your body. This is using your forward power or energy Which is the right foot and hand and trying to pulling your body. But you can’t master god footwork by keep doing this. If you want god footwork Use have to use your left half your hand, foot and chest which are positioning at the backside. Then try to Push your entire body. Push your heavy body. Use the power to push forward. Not a power to pull.
Power to Push Why? because the power to Push your body is stronger than pull. Let me tell you in a more natural way. Imagine you have a VERY heavy object in front of you. And if you were to move this, how would you do? I think most people will start trying to push the object. am I right? However, in Kendo Seems like, people are trying to pull the object to move forward. This is to say, this massive object is your own body in real life. So, the question is. Do you pull your body using the right foot? Or would you instead push your body by left leg? Of course, God Footwork is this power to push your body. Rule of Jumbo Monaka. Now, let me talk in little more detail. In the world of Kendo, you first get ready. And you will keep putting pressure to your opponent until you break your opponent’s posture. Then strike. That means, your opponent will try to do the same thing. Your opponent will try to do what exactly you are trying to do. But, you can’t get God Footwork if you are losing your posture so quickly when your when your opponent is putting pressure to you. The real God Footwork have to have strong and stable legs and foot that won’t lose your posture no matter what happens. You have to concentrate on your secret line that is passing through your body. Left leg and foot This is a critical line to have a proper poster in Kendo. This is because This line is what is supporting you have strong and accurate strikes. It is a source of your power Another significant point is now concentrate on this back and waist lien to crack backwords. What I mean by crack backwards is Imagin this Jumbo Monaka (my favourite) and Imagin this is your back then Crack Crack Feel cracking your back into half Some people say like put your chest out Or put your shoulder bone together. It’s all the same thing. It is all for your footwork It’s all for your God Footwork. Think like you put your weight to your left waist. This won’t happen if you are holding Shinai with a slouch. Put your shoulder down and crack your back. There is one more thing. When people who were holding with a slouch so far try to fix there posture immediately. They hold Shinai in front of your stomach without making any space.
